The Best Order to Clean a Room

If cleaning feels like a never-ending battle, chances are you're not working in the right order. Knowing the best order to clean a room can make the whole process faster, more efficient, and a lot less frustrating. Rather than moving dirt around or re-cleaning surfaces you've already done, a simple top-to-bottom, back-to-front approach helps you get the job done properly the first time.

Start High and Work Your Way Down

The golden rule of room cleaning is to always start at the top and work downward. Dust and debris fall, so if you vacuum the floor first and then dust the shelves, you'll just be dirtying the floor all over again.

Begin by dusting ceiling fans, light fittings, and the tops of wardrobes or tall furniture. From there, work your way down to shelves, picture frames, window sills, and skirting boards.  Our tip? Use a microfibre cloth for best results, since it traps dust rather than just spreading it around.

Next, tackle any glass surfaces like mirrors and windows, then wipe down hard furniture with an appropriate cleaner. If you're cleaning a bedroom, this is also the right time to change your sheets and make the bed, doing it earlier just gives surfaces more time to collect dust before you've finished the room.

Clean Back to Front, and Save the Floor for Last

Once you've worked your way down from the ceiling, it's time to think about direction. The best order to clean a room also means working from the back of the room toward the door, so you're never stepping over freshly cleaned areas or tracking dirt back across the floor.

Spot-clean any walls or light switches as you go, then move on to decluttering surfaces and putting things back in their place. Once everything else is done, the floor is your final step. Vacuum or sweep thoroughly, then mop hard floors if needed, always finishing at the doorway so you can step straight out without walking over your clean floor.

A Little Routine Goes a Long Way

Once you've got the best order to clean a room locked in, the whole process becomes second nature. A consistent routine not only saves time but keeps your home feeling fresh with far less effort. Stick with it, and you'll be amazed at how much quicker cleaning becomes.

But if you’d rather not do it yourself, professional cleaners can support your routine with regular services or deep cleans. Give us a buzz on 1800 646 477 or book an appointment today and our friendly team can keep your home looking  fresh without the stress.
